1. Explore the concept of the numeration system and its importance to mathematics
2. Define and explore arithmetic sequence
3. Investigate the concept of arithmetic sequence and its effect on the numeration system
4. Identify and define mathematical sequence
5. Justify the importance of arithmetic sequence to the number sequence
6. Synthesize the basic concept of arithmetic sequence
7. Define the concept of geometric sequence
8. Justify the importance of geometric sequence to the system of numeration
9. Identify, if any, the connection between geometric sequence and geometry
10. Determine the roles of geometry and geometric sequence in mathematics
11. Differentiate arithmetic sequence and geometric sequence
12. Compare the arithmetic and geometric sequences with other types of mathematical
sequences
13. Synthesize the basic concept of the geometric system.

Course Assignments


Online Discussions, 1 – 2 (10 points each for a total of 20)
For the next two weeks you are expected to relate to each other as a large class and in smaller learning communities. Discussion is one of the forum in which you’ll show that relation. You will be creative, exploratory, and become a dynamic student in the end as you prepare for college.

Week 1 Individual Assignment
Use GoogleDocs, to answer the questions: What is the concept of arithmetic sequence? How important is this concept to numeration system? You will also watch a video on arithmetic sequences before creating a concept map to illustrate this video.

Week 1 Collaborative Assignment
After listening to a podcast, which describes this assignment, each group will be expected to work on the assignment collaboratively before making their final presentations.

Week 2 Individual Assignment
The podcast will describe the assignment, and the steps to take in completing it.

Week 2 Collaborative Assignment
In your smaller learning communities, you will use wiki to collaborate on the differences and similarities between the arithmetic sequence and the geometric sequence. You will then use a multimedia technology tool to create a presentation on your collaboration theme, as well as to make the presentation to the class over the Internet.

Role and Commitments of the Instructor

The main responsibility of the instructor is to ensure that you pass this course. In doing so, I will facilitate as much as possible by giving you appropriate feedback in a timely manner. Whenever you contact me, you should get a response within a 48-hour period. Your academic growth and development is a priority, so participating in your discussions, and checking your assignments will be vital to this endeavor. If you are not comfortable with the feedback given, then say it, preferably through an email or telephone conversation. I am here for you.


Roles and Expectations of the students
As a member of this class, you are expected to adhere to certain rules and procedures, coupled with expectations. You are responsible to login at the appropriate times to manage your learning. Accessing the weekly activities will be your main responsibility. If I do not see your work online on a regular basis, I will assume that you have withdrawn from the course. If you would like to withdraw from the course, there are procedures that you need to follow. It is not my intention for you to do so, but if you are thinking about that, you may want to contact me as a start. In addition to communicating with the instructor, you need to communicate with your online learning community, as some of the points awarded in this course will be determined by the level of your participation with your fellow students. The deadline to submit assignments, including the participation in discussions, is 11:59 pm on the due date. Good mannerisms are expected at al times in the online forum. You need to treat each person with respect, as you command respect.



Intellectual Honesty Policy
As budding intellectuals, you are expected to honest in your academic pursuits. As you prepare for college, the onus is on you to regulate your academic integrity. The works of others are protected under copyright laws, so copying, downloading, or simply ‘cut and paste’ the works of others from the Internet without accreditation, is a serious offence. In recent times, Creative Commons licensing is an alternative way of making reference to this type of work. Therefore, to protect you from any such violation of academic integrity, you will be expected to cite the works of others and give credit where credit is due. Failure to do so, may result in a loss of points towards your grade for this course, which can ultimately result in the failing of the course.
